Ultimate 4×4 Spiti Valley & Chandratal Overland Expedition Package

Distance: ~180 km | Drive Time: 6–7 hrs | Altitude: 3,800 m.

• Morning: Leave Manali early to avoid traffic and pass through the 9.2 km Atal Tunnel, emerging into the serene Lahaul Valley at Sissu.
• Midday: Hit the rugged, unpaved off-road track from Gramphu along the Chandra Riverbed toward Batal. Engage 4x4 mode to navigate deep glacial streams (paggal nalas) like Chota Dhara.
• Afternoon: Begin the steep switchback ascent to Kunzum Pass (4,551 m). Stop at the Kunzum Mata temple for blessings before descending into Losar.
  
  Evening: Drive along the Spiti River to Kaza. Check into your hotel, rest, and begin acclimatization to the thin air.

2.Day 2: High-Village Off-Road Circuit (Key, Kibber, Chicham, Hikkim, Komic, Langza):Distance: ~90 km loop | Drive Time: 4–5 hrs | Altitude: 4,100 m – 4,587 m.

• Morning: Drive up steep gravel trails to Key Monastery, the largest Buddhist learning center in Spiti Valley. Proceed across Chicham Bridge, Asia’s highest suspension bridge spanning a 150-meter deep gorge, to reach Kibber.
• Afternoon: Off-road across the high plateau to Langza to view the giant seated Buddha statue overlooking the snow peaks. Drive to Hikkim to post a physical postcard from the world’s highest post office (4,440 m), then continue to Komic (4,587 m), one of the highest motorable villages in the world.
• Evening: Return to Kaza for an evening stroll through the local market and overnight stay.

3.Day 3: Kaza to Chandratal Lake Off-Road Base Camp:Distance: ~100 km | Drive Time: 5 hrs | Altitude: 4,300 m.

• Morning: Check out from Kaza and retrace the trail along the Spiti River back toward Losar.
• Midday: Climb back over Kunzum Pass and take the narrow, single-lane cliffside dirt track leading to the Chandratal Lake parking area. This 14 km stretch requires precise 4x4 handling.
• Afternoon: Park at the designated point and take a gentle 1 km hike to the shores of the crescent-shaped "Moon Lake" (4,300 m). Enjoy the changing colors of the water as the sun shifts.
• Evening: Head to the nearby campsite zone for an overnight stay in dome or Swiss tents under clear night skies.

4.Day 4: Chandratal to Manali via Batal & Gramphu Water Crossings:Distance: ~120 km | Drive Time: 6 hrs | Altitude: 2,050 m.

• Morning: Catch the early morning reflection on the lake before starting the drive back toward Batal. Early departure is critical before daytime melting swells the glacial streams.
• Midday: Negotiate the rocky riverbeds of Batal and Chota Dhara in low-range 4x4 gear. Join the smooth asphalt highway at Gramphu.
• Afternoon: Drive through the Atal Tunnel and descend into the Kullu Valley, arriving in Manali by late afternoon.
• Evening: Check into your hotel in Manali and relax after the off-road expedition.

Distance: Local Sightseeing / Rest Day.

• Morning: Spend a relaxed morning visiting Old Manali, the 16th-century Hadimba Temple, and Manu Temple.
• Afternoon: Use this day as an operational buffer for the trip (in case of previous weather or road delays) or enjoy local cafes, shopping on Mall Road, and vehicle cleaning/inspection after the off-road leg.
• Evening: Group farewell dinner and overnight stay in Manali.

Departure Day.

• Morning: Breakfast at the hotel and check out.
• Onwards: Board your onward Volvo bus or private transport back to Chandigarh/Delhi, marking the end of the 4x4 expedition.
